When a pregnant woman has to do absolute rest according to the specialist's instructions, it is important to know that it may involve some risks, such as the following:
- Muscle atrophy and loss of bone mass.
- Appearance of blood clots.
- Constipation.
- Stress, anxiety and depression.
On the other hand, it is important to mention that the beneficial effect of absolute bed rest to prevent preterm labor is highly questioned. Nevertheless, it is true that many physicians still recommend it today.
